It’s all about the creative journey and the destination. First, finding or creating unique objects to add a touch of intrigue, an idea begins to form and a vision emerges, a search ensues to find the perfect beads or chain to complement the pendant, then everything is laid out to determine the best sequence, you turn on the radio to find some music to enhance the creative mood as you carefully wrap each bead, you might be in a hurry, anxious to see if the completed piece will come out exactly as you had envisioned, but you have to pause, take a breath, and stay in the creative moment. Finally, the beads are wrapped, the wire is patina’d and polished, the pendant is hung, the final results are gorgeous, just as you imagined. Then you put it out there for all to see until it is discovered by that unique person for which it was intended. This is part of the magic of owning a handmade treasure.
I so enjoyed making this set for my friend, Eileen. She created this gorgeous clay pendant! A talented potter I had met through Etsy one year while searching for that perfect Christmas gift. I purchased a few of her gorgeous pottery pieces and from there a budding friendship emerged. Sometimes we just never know what true treasures we may find on any given day.
This set is NFS (not for sale — one of those dreaded signs I sometimes stumble across while antiquing and find that something I so adore…sigh). From the beginning it was meant for her.
And although this gorgeous set has found its forever home, I do have a few other unique, one-of-a-kind statement necklaces featuring Eileen’s gorgeous pendants.
I used to say I couldn’t live anywhere where the seasons never changed. Well, I’ve changed my mindset because I’m sure I could live anywhere because this world is a beautiful place to be no matter where you live. I am a firm believer in finding the beauty and joys that fill your life with happiness and love wherever you may land.
But, with that said, I do so love how the seasons change here in the Midwest USA. I’ve gone from living in a mid sized city to living a rural lifestyle here on our farm. And, as much as I enjoyed my urban lifestyle I must say that I am in awe of the nature that surrounds me here in the country and the changes that evolve in what sometimes seems like the blink of an eye.
We welcomed spring here on Saturday with temperatures starting to warm up but still a bit chilly so I grabbed my jacket and took the dogs for a little stroll and thought I’d share a few photos of our little farm.
I have an obsession confession. Sometimes (okay, often) when I’m perusing for unique stones or beads to work into my jewelry creations I come across some pieces that almost make me hyperventilate with that “gotta have this” feeling. Although my habit (okay, my reasoning way of thinking would/should be) is to wait a day or two before purchasing to “make sure” this is truly an “object of my affection” and not a “passing phase” that will fade by the next day, sometimes I just can’t wait. I get nervous thinking that I might miss my window of opportunity if I don’t buy it RIGHT NOW! I’ve even found myself unable to sleep during my self-induced “waiting period” and have jumped out of bed in the middle of the night, vetoing my inner voice that says “wait” and moving forward with a “buy it now” mentality. This results in a momentary sense of peace and the ability to then garner an hour or two of much needed sleep until I start thinking about matching beads.
This is the case with these ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS dalmatian jasper teardrop pendants. First I purchased one, then I purchased a few more. I think I purchased six (maybe a couple more than that) in total, and I REALLY WANT MORE! But, I restrain myself so that I will make just a few limited edition pieces which will make them all the more precious for those discerning few fashion fanatics who strive for individuality.
These short statement necklaces feature natural semi-precious gemstones and stones with each dalmatian jasper pendant supported by a strand of a contrasting yet complementary gemstone beads. Although similar, each necklace is unique in color combination not to mention the eclectic designs created by the natural occurring striations, bands, inclusions, and veins found in each individual stone.
These are the few necklaces I’ve created with these cool dalmatian jasper pendants and anticipate I’ll finish up the last few within the next couple of months.
In the meantime, did I mention these awesome amazonite and tiger eye pendants I recently stumbled across………
I am a rock fanatic! From natural semi-precious gemstones to rocks found along a path or creek I am in awe of each and every beautiful characteristic they exude. If you were to visit my home, in addition to the many gemstones I have for creative purposes you’ll also find rocks of all sizes and shapes here and there throughout my home and yard. Imagine the vibes they create!
While thinking of different ways to display their beauty, I came up with the idea for these gemstone sun catcher chimes. Each one is created by hand and has a primitive style.
Add a splash of earthy color to your window with a unique sun catcher. The natural rough cut stones are dazzling while the crystal prism adds a splatter of rainbow colors on a sunny day and the small brass bell will softly chime when it catches a little breeze. Cool, unusual and delightful piece to stimulate the heart, mind, body, and soul!
Contrasting color combinations add an eclectic artsy vibe to these long statement earrings. Funky cool in a sophisticated chic kind of style! Perfect for that confident woman with a unique sense of fashion and originality!
Totally tantalized by these cool, colorful acetate plastic pieces I had to jump onto the trendy bandwagon to create a few of my own unique earring designs. The acetate dangles are thin and lightweight making them perfect for creating big bold statement earrings. Although similar, each acetate plastic dangle has its own unique design, no two pieces are identical giving each pair of earrings an eclectic, artsy flair. I’ve purchased just a few then mixed and matched them with some colorful sparkly glass beads. Limited edition. I’ll be creating only a few of these gorgeous acetate statement earrings. Absolutely Gorgeous! I can’t really take the credit for these beautiful natural gemstone statement necklaces. After all, it is the beauty of the natural stone that makes them so stunning. I simply enjoyed the process of bringing it all together; the pleasure of “the treasure hunt” in finding these gorgeous petrified wood (agate) pendants, then the quest to find the perfect matching gemstone beads, being in the moment as I wire wrap each bead and polish each beaded link. It is a joyous journey and one I find very meditative. Dare I say good vibes woven into each piece!
Limited edition creations! These necklaces are unique and one-of-a-kind with their earthy natural colors, striations and inclusions. Currently, I have these three stunning necklaces available in my goimagine shop. https://www.goimagine.com/judystreehouse BUT! I so adore these pendants that I have a few more ordered and on their way. Each pendant exhibits individual earthy characteristics and each necklace I create will have a different strand of beaded links.
I did have a bit of a challenge photographing these beauties. They are so glossy that my photo lamps were reflecting off of their shiny surface. But, the photos taken in natural light don’t quite display their rich colors.
You’ll appreciate their beauty once you hold them in your hands. They are enchanting!
Decisions, decisions…….nothing like the arrival of some new gemstones to get the creative juices flowing!
These petrified wood agate pendants are absolutely gorgeous! So much so I went back and purchased a few more! Each one has its own individual characteristics and colors and is visually stunning. Of course, I then had to decide which beads to match them with, then layout the best bead sequence to best complement each pendant.
There are so many options that would work beautifully but after a bit of deliberation I decided on the combinations that best resonated with me at the time. I could actually come back another day and decide that a different combination might be just as good or better. Thus, my motto, every day is different and so is the jewelry I create.
So, I’ve wire wrapped my beads and pendants and they are almost complete. They’ve gone through their process to patina the wire. Now they’re just waiting for me to give the wire it’s final polishing and then these gorgeous, one-of-a-kind gemstone necklaces will be ready to become someone’s next eye-catching fashion statement.
Good Morning! I’m sure many of you have seen the movie, “Jerry Maguire”. Enough said, I think you’ll get the gist as you read further.
“Complacency is the Antithesis of Excellence”. This quote was passed on to me years ago during my time spent in the corporate world. It resonated and stuck. I was working for a very large national corporation. They had a mission statement of “Vision, Strategy and Values. Integrity was at the top of their list of Core Values. I believed in them, I worked hard for them, and I had faith in their mission statement and core values. I was happy and grateful to be a part of their team. I worked hard to accomplish their goals by adhering to their mission statement and core values. With them I also grew in knowledge and wisdom and personal development. I was grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a business and team with these goals and values.
But, as years went by and I advanced into upper management positions I realized the integrity of the company was only as good as the integrity of its employees; no matter their position, title, or income. I started seeing individuals encouraging and/or allowing traits of tweaking and skewing data in an effort to “attain” successful key measure results. In other words, I saw the habits of some people within the organization were not in line with the core values of the company. I was determined that I would not become a part of this group of self-accommodating individuals. Unable and unwilling to become lost in unethical roads to success I decided it was time for me to move on. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe in that corporation, their mission, and their core values. I so enjoyed each and every position I held and the growth and opportunities the company provided for me. I was grateful for the years I worked there and often miss the hard, challenging, stressful work that helped me grow individually and professionally with the satisfaction of a job well done. I wish this company continued success!
Now, I find myself at the same crossroads with my small handmade jewelry shop. I’ve been grateful for the years I’ve been a seller on the Etsy ecommerce marketplace. When I opened my shop there in 2014, Etsy gave me the opportunity to offer my handmade creations to people all over the world. I can remember the joy I felt when I realized that people in each of the 50 states had found something to enjoy from my small shop. Etsy helped me to grow even further individually and professionally, and I am grateful for the opportunities provided to me as a seller within their online marketplace.
Yet, “nothing endures but change”. Another quote that has stuck with me throughout my professional career. And, sadly, I am finding that Etsy is changing and evolving in a direction that doesn’t fit with my personal mission statement and core values. Individual shops exhibiting traits without a sense of core values, only greed and poor customer service are starting to infiltrate this marketplace which once focused on unique handmade and vintage items. And, yes, there are still great people within Etsy’s network of sellers offering quality handmade and vintage items along with honesty, integrity, and great customer service but it is getting more difficult to weed out the good from the bad. Etsy is hugely successful in the world of ecommerce, and I’m certain they will continue to be so. But, the time has come for me to re-evaluate the group with which I’m associated, and I’ve found that perhaps Etsy and I are no longer such a great match, at least with their current state of sellers. I wish Etsy continued success, it’s just my opinion that they no longer cater to niche shops and discerning customers.
I’ve decided it’s time for me to step away from the Etsy platform and find a new marketplace and group of sellers that are more in line with my personal mission and core values. I believe I might have found that group within Goimagine.com. Time will tell. They are just beginning and they have a dream, a vision, and a different way of looking at success. I believe they are a better fit for me and my small handmade shop.
And so, I am gradually moving items from my Etsy shops to my shop within the GoImagine marketplace https://goimagine.com/judystreehouse/ . I hope those of you who are searching for that perfect, cool, unique, unusual something will find your way to this new, innovative marketplace; a marketplace with a slogan of a #caringeconomy. They have a dream and a vision of change. A change more economically beneficial to the society in which we live. I hope you’ll take a moment to visit their website to learn more about their mission. And, I hope you will give the GoImagine marketplace and their eclectic mix of shops with handmade items and artistic creative sellers the opportunity to provide you with a great on-line shopping experience while at the same time working towards the success of giving back to the community by way of their #caringeconomy mission.
And back to my initial reference to the movie “Jerry Maguire”; in today’s world it may be a struggle to maintain one’s ethical stance with high moral standards but the end results are much more satisfying when you attain success through hard work and a commitment to your own personal core values and those of the people with which you associate! Nobody says change is easy but “Nothing changes if nothing changes”.
I won’t call it the winter doldrums because I find the winter months to be beautiful and calming. A white blanketed landscape creating a pristine canvas, the jolt, awakening, renewal of a blast of cold air, the crispy feeling of cold on your cheeks, that scent of freshness that permeates the air, the silence of the gently falling snow. Everchanging and beautiful is each and every season of the year here in the Midwest USA.
But, beautiful and refreshing as I find winter to be, I also enjoy the coziness and comfort of being tucked inside my warm home. The slow down I find in the season of winter gives me the opportunity and time to be creative.
Here are some of the things I’ve been working on the past few months!
So, as I am enjoying these last few months of winter I’m also looking forward to Spring.
